Australia Day Award For Venturers

Canterbury Vale District Venturers and Scouts from 2nd Enfield and 1st Burwood, had a great way to celebrate our national day.

Burwood City Council awarded the Groups a special Australia Day Award for an ongoing community project.

Venturers and Scouts combined under the tutorage of Canterbury Vale District Commissioner Cheryl Borsak, to make linen carry bags.

Burwood Mayor John Faker said he and his Council were really pleased with our project.

He said the linen bags were cut, sewn and distributed throughout the community by the Venturers and Scouts in an effort to reduce reliance on plastic bags.

Councillor Faker said the Venturers and Scouts had set a great community example.

Bravoo to our Venturers and 1st Burwood and 2nd Enfield Scouts!

MEET THE YOUTH COMMITTEE TEAM

I’m Andrew Nguyen. I work in the Croydon Park Bakery, NG Hot bread, and I am Vietnamese. Why did I join the Croydon Park Youth Committee, you ask?

Back in 2008, I joined the Scouts in Bankstown. It was great fun which lead me to volunteering at the Children Festival that year. It was an opportunity that allowed me to help out through volunteer work.  It was fantastic, and I took many photos, a hobby of mine.

I have volunteered for the Children’s Festival for seven years now, which in turn saw me volunteer for the Croydon Park Festival in 2014. It was at the Croydon Park Festival that the initial spark for a Croydon Park Youth Committee would alight. And a few months later, a fellow volunteer and now friend, Rocky, would send me an email regarding a Croydon Park Youth Committee. I said yes!

Edward

Edward

Edward is a recent Business graduate from James Cook University currently interning at Westpac in the commercial banking department. In his down time he plays soccer for Dobroyd FC in the Sydney Amateur League. Edward was a volunteer during last year’s Croydon Park festival and was subsequently nominated to be a chamber board member, and then made a founding member of the youth committee. His passion is helping small to medium sized businesses succeed and as such found a calling with the Chamber. Originally from Papua New Guinea he hopes to return in the future to establish his own business.

Marcella ProfileMarcella

Marcella is a Sydney-based Media graduate. Qualified in Journalism and Communications you can often find her writing an article, interviewing an interesting character, or camera in hand, ready for a great shot. Marcella has been a volunteer photographer for the Croydon Park Business Chamber (CPBC) since mid 2013, and later took on social media duties for the CPBC. When the Chamber announced the birth of a Youth Committee for 2015, Marcella was instantly attracted to the idea of creating community awareness targeted at a younger audience.

Mel

Melinda

Mel is currently studying Theology at a Bible College in Croydon. Qualified in International Community Development and Fine Arts, she will often be mingling with various multi-cultural groups in the inner-west – teaching English to Korean kids, dancing with South Asian mums or strumming to Farsi songs at church. Mel volunteered last year at the Croydon Park Street Festival and loved the community atmosphere. Passionate about creativity, youth and diversity she is enjoying being part of event planning on the YouthRockyRockyRocky

Rocky has recently completed his tertiary education graduating with a Bachelor of Management in Events and Leisure from the University of Technology Sydney. His passion for creating memorable events has led him in his pursuit towards working with private and not-for-profit organisations like the Croydon Park Business Chamber. His involvement in the planning phases for the Experience Croydon Park! Festival last year has furthered his knowledge and understanding of working in an events team. The satisfaction and enjoyment gained from working alongside the CPBC in creating events has led to his continual link and eventual entry to the Youth Committee. Outside of work his interest includes dance and music with a particular love for the hip hop/rap and rnb scene.
